Dipped Waffle Cones

Hey you guys! Are you having a nice week? Mine just got exponentially better because I ate one of these dipped waffle cones, filled to maximum capacity with gelato. Why not? Shoot, I might eat one for breakfast tomorrow. (Just kidding…maybe.)

Ingredients

8 Waffle cones
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
Various toppings (Heath Bars, Hershey Hugs, mini chocolate chips, marshmallows, graham crackers, sprinkles, almonds, peanuts, etc.)

Directions

Prepare toppings.. Remove waffle cones from package and place in small cups to hold upright (see pictures below).

Place the semi-sweet chips and vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 15-second increments until smooth and fully melted, stirring in between.

Dip waffle cones in melted chocolate and sprinkle desired toppings over the chocolate. Place waffle cones back upright in the small cups and allow the chocolate to set, this takes at least 30 minutes at room temperature. Enjoy with your favorite scoop of ice cream. To prevent the chocolate from melting, you can store the cones in a ziptop freezer bag in the freezer until you are ready to eat them.

I raided my baking cabinet and came up with a bunch of goodies to decorate the waffle cones with.

I used small cups to hold each waffle cone upright while they dried. Also, I sprinkled the toppings over an empty pan to make cleanup easier (also, you could just go ahead and use what falls into the pan to sprinkle on top of ice cream...why not?)
