I had a hankering for donuts, so I hit the kitchen and came up with this delightful recipe for Snickerdoodle Donuts. After taking the first bite, I couldn’t help but yell out “Nailed it!” Finally, a baked donut that tastes similar a fried one. The center is perfectly light and the outside is nice and crisp, thanks to the cinnamon sugar coating. I will be making these donuts again and again and again.
Snickerdoodle Donuts Printer-Friendly Recipe
From: Spoonful of Sugar
Makes: 12 Donuts in a standard-sized donut pan
Prep Time: About 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15-18 minutes
1 3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
1 heaping tablespoon cinnamon
To make Donuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray donut pans with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
Sift together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in the brown sugar until combined. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter (allow to cool a bit), egg, milk, and vanilla. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Spoon into the prepared baking pans, dividing evenly between each donut mold.
Bake in preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, until the donuts are set and a toothpick inserted into the donut comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to sit for 5 minutes before removing from pan and placing on a wire rack.
Melt 1/4 cup of butter in shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl combine the cup of sugar and cinnamon. Brush each donut with butter and immediately dip in the cinnamon & sugar mixture. You can either coat the whole donut or do just the tops, that’s up to you. I coated mine completely because I love the crunch of the sugar all around the donut. Enjoy!
